Orion Pictures has launched a new website to promote its upcoming remake of classic 1988 killer doll movie Child’s Play. The promotional site focuses on the new “Buddi” doll which, as we reported earlier this month, has replaced the franchise’s traditional “Good Guys” doll, and apparently Buddi comes with a ton of modern features, such as artificial intelligence, cameras, sensors, and wireless connectivity:
The icons in the ad also reveal that Buddi may be able to control drones (upper right), move on its own (middle right), and control smart home functions such as Wi-Fi, HVAC, audio systems.
With all of this focus on the new doll, we’re left speculating if Chucky will be Voodoo-conjured at all in this remake, but rather a technological menace – A.I. gone wrong.
The modern locomotion & machine-learning capabilities of the new Buddi doll should allow evil Chucky to remain undetected for a lot longer than in previous movies, which could spice things up. And if Buddi can control the family’s smart home, that potentially adds a techno-paranormal element to the film as well.
The site also included a handful of new mobile wallpapers (below) and this message from the Kaslan Corporation (manufacturers of Buddi), further touting the doll’s technology:
A message from Henry Kaslan:

With all of this focus on the new doll, we’re left speculating if Chucky will be Voodoo-conjured at all in this remake, but rather a technological menace – AI gone wrong. The movie’s social media spots also hint in that direction:

This post states that Buddi can in fact connect to “smart devices” as well as “other Kaslan products”, leaving even more devices open to Chucky’s control:

Did you also catch the HAL 9000-esque red eyes at the end?
What do you folks think? Is the new remake dumping the Voodoo premise in favor of malevolent A.I.? Has Charles Lee Ray lost his job to automation? Let us know in the comments below!
We’ll find out when Child’s Play is released to theaters nationwide on June 21st, 2019.
